If we did have a word for that, the word for unloneliness, it would include the opposite of tragedy and loss. Never having to lose people who have words like these, who have potential. Go read the whole thing. I remember feeling this way at 22, feeling like I was leaving the incredible world I’d built and not knowing if I’d ever get it back. I didn’t, but I’ve built many more worlds since then, and I hope I keep remembering that the best days aren’t gone. I hope I keep finding worlds full of people who will laugh heartily and sit around campfires and talk and sing late into the night. I hope that sense of belonging to a tribe never leaves my life. Even if the tribe is just two or three of us. Even if it’s only the one that I create myself.

Aí vai: embora isso possa parecer um erro (para vocês grotesco, mesmo assim), gostei muito mais, recentemente, de ler sobre Bloom, o novo disco do Beach House, do que propriamente escutá-lo. Let it go back to me.
Talvez seja até uma questão de maturidade: muito do que eu ouço no novo disco, enxergando também pela ótica de muitas pessoas, é um conjunto de argumentos acerca do que esperar em 2012. E, não sei por qual motivo, minha preocupação tem sido analisar tudo isso por uma ótica maior, nesse caso: o que motiva as pessoas a agirem assim e pensarem desse jeito. Para mim, Bloom cumpre essa função divisória. Talvez toda essa discussão sobre o disco do Beach House tenha destruído toda essa paixão que eu tenho pelo duo, masm sinceramente, tanto faz.
Eu vejo dois argumentos principais, ambos estúpidos: um conservador, que diz que a evolução de uma banda é diferente de seu progresso. O segundo é que não há problema algum em manter a base sem alterar o fator. O perigoso, nisso tudo, é que a conclusão a que se chega não atinge o propósito principal, o início da discussão: e nós, os ouvintes, como ficamos?
Trata-se de um problema de retorno decrescente, na verdade. A evolução do Beach House de aventureiros pop para criadores de fantasias afetadas ganha mais importância do que seria normal de se esperar, portanto. Acaba sendo parte primária. É por isso que enquanto ouço Bloom vejo uma grande parte de todo o esforço do Beach House como estagnação. Enquanto todos os outros elementos do duo continuam exatamente os mesmos, o espírito dark do disco trata de diminuir o que nós conhecíamos. É mais do que uma questão conservadora: é questão de princípio.
